Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day

President Obama has declared Monday, January 11 Human Trafficking Awareness Day. In the proclamation, President Obama states that:

"Fighting modern slavery and human trafficking is a shared responsibility. This month, I urge all Americans to educate themselves about all forms of modern slavery and the signs and consquences of human trafficking. Together, we can and must end this most serious, ongoing criminal civil rights violation. . . I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the vital role we can play in ending modern slavery".

Human Trafficking is modern day slavery, and happens in the United States and close to my home, Oklahoma. It's an issue that God has brought to my heart over the last year through movies like "Taken" and "Slumdog Millionaire", sermon messages, blogs, research and awareness. Organizations like International Justice Mission are rescuing girls as young as 4 from brothels, where they are thought as nothing more than property, and expected to "service" 30+men a night. Disgusting. Heartbreaking.

Awareness is a great first step, and where I am still learning that trafficking is the second most lucrative crime in the world, making $32billion annually. Learn more at:

Read stories and watch videos of victims, and their recovery. Please be aware some of these obviously contain adult themes and accounts of actual slavery.
International Justice Mission, whose work is found on the Christian call to justice in the Bible in Isaiah 1:17 Seek justice, protect the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. IJM has been featured in USA Today, Dateline NBC, Wall Street Journal and more...
